Foresight skills coach

The future is the only part of our lives we can change, and we want to make sure that we HAPPEN TO THE FUTURE, not that the future HAPPENS TO US! The central idea about building foresight skills is that if we understand the forces shaping the world, we will be able to design and create our own future.

To achieve this, we need tools and techniques that help us understand the context of the future. Tools that allow us to analyze and think differently about the future.

Preparing for the infinite outcomes

One of the biggest challenge with thinking about and planning for the future, is to get comfortable with that there is not one future but many different possible futures. Actually, there are an infinite amount of different futures, ranging from the rosy utopian to the darker dystopian scenarios, from the “if nothing changes we’ll end up here” to the chaotic events of “Black Swans” or other “Wild Cards”.

The ability to decode and think differently about the future, enables us to start anticipating changes before they arrive at our doorstep. A future ready organisation is an organisation that have these foresight skills and thinking and that uses these skills on a daily basis.

To explore more about how I can help you and your organisation to be more prepared and think differently about the future, drop me a line.

There are three “standard” workshops available:

  • Thinking Tools & Techniques: This is an eight-module 2-day workshop that covers the essential tools and techniques allowing us to analyze and look at world events and issues with a future-focused lens.
  • Scenario Analysis: In this half-day workshop, we perform scenario analysis and play your organization against a set of scenarios relevant for your organization, while debating options, actions, and possible solutions.
  • Mega Force Analysis: In this half-day workshop, we look at a specific mega force (like geopolitics, climate change, demographic change, etc.) and analyze how it affects your organization and what actions you can take to mitigate its effects.

We can also run bespoke workshops, addressing your organization’s specific circumstances and options.

Foresight thinking tools workshops

Thinking about the future requires different tools and techniques, enabling us to decode the context and describe the uncertainties of 10, 15, or 30 years into the future. At the same time, the tools we use should be easy to understand and work with, they should not require massive resources or take a lot of time, and they should cover all aspects that affect our organization.
